Next week, we welcome not only a new month, but a new season of the liturgical year.  Great Lent in the eastern Orthodox church begins this coming Monday!  Naturally, for the past few weeks, the anticipation has been building.

The Prayer of St. Ephraim

The K-3rd graders and I recently talked about the first line of the Prayer of St. Ephraim, which we repeat often during Lent: “…take from me the spirit of sloth, meddling, lust for power, and idle talk…”  Furthermore, each day, we especially ask God to help us fight against tough temptations like being reluctant to pray or forgive or show kindness, like wanting always to have our own way and be the one in charge, like gossiping about others’ failings instead of paying attention to our own hearts…

A Glimpse of Pascha

Forgiveness Vespers this coming Sunday night always holds a special thrill for me; the choir sings parts of the Paschal canon – not as the triumphant proclamation that we will hear on Pascha morning, but as a soft and solemn whisper, like an echo moving backward through time.  It’s a foretaste of Pascha, a glimpse of the joyful destination that we will work towards for 40 days, a vision of a promised land before we set off together into the desert!

Beginning the Lenten Journey

Our first step forward is reconciliation with our fellow sojourners as on Sunday night we ask each person in turn for their forgiveness – there isn’t a moment to lose, so we’d better start Lent as we mean to go on!   The time has come to scour the house of the heart, asking for God’s help to get the dust and cobwebs out of every corner so that we might be ready to receive the King at the end of the journey.

God grant us His blessing this Lenten season that we may be drawn nearer to the Kingdom and celebrate a joyous Pascha together!

Updated Playground Rules

With the arrival of warmer temperatures, our CSA Community is now actively enjoying the playground during and after school. Certainly, spring presents an ideal opportunity to update and reinforce the playground rules, ensuring everyone can safely and happily share the fresh air and sunshine. Therefore, we will be posting copies of these rules prominently on the playground itself. Additionally, we kindly request that all parents take a moment to review the Playground Rules here as well.
