At our January assembly, our second and third graders recited a poem by Robert Frost entitled “The Last Word of a Bluebird” in which a bluebird leaves a message for his friend – a little girl – bidding her farewell for the season because the signs of winter have started to appear.  I think the whole school laughed out loud when the bluebird explains that:

“…ice on the trough

Almost made him cough

His tail feathers off.”

We certainly think the icy weather (and the accompanying coughs) have had their day, and with the poet we look with hope to the little bluebird and the future when

“…perhaps in the spring

He would come back and sing.”

In the meantime, there is much to look forward to during the month of February at Christ the Savior Academy, despite the lingering winter weather.  Our fourth graders will be introduced to the sport of archery in PE. Speech meet is right around the corner for our middle school students; this year’s theme will include great speeches from history. And, around St. Valentine’s Day, it has become tradition for our students to invite important ladies in their lives – mothers, godmothers, aunts, and grandmothers – to visit them at school and celebrate with something sweet.  It’s a wonderful way to pivot the focus of St. Valentine’s Day toward a model of selfless and nurturing love.

Warm wishes,
